Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United: Gunners hit form at the perfect time to inflict Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first Premier League defeat as Red Devils manager

  • Romelu Lukaku had the first clear-cut chance of the match when he hit the bar from close range
  • Arsenal made them pay when Granit Xhaka's long-range effort bamboozled goalkeeper David de Gea
  • Manchester United midfielder Fred was the next to rattle the woodwork with his strike from distance
  • Fred was then judged to have brought down Alexandre Lacazette inside the area and a penalty was given
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then stepped up and calmly slotted home Arsenal's second down the middle
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the finishing touches on Arsenal's 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur, we're coming for you,' sang the locals. Maybe, maybe not - but they're coming for somebody. First it was Chelsea, beaten 2-0 here in January and subsequently relegated to sixth place, now Manchester United, defeated by domestic opponents for the first time in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure and edged out of the Champions League top four.
Arsenal face Rennes on Thursday in a competition that has come to be known as their Champions League safety blanket.  If it stays like this, however, it is Solskjaer who will need to land the big one to be in it next season.
Curtis Mayfield's Move On Up serenaded the fans as they walked into the night and the rain — and Arsenal have. They lead United by two points and trail Tottenham by one.
Granit Xhaka attempted a speculative strike from range early on and it wrong-footed United keeper David De Gea
A supporter ran across the pitch and confronted Chris Smalling after the second goal - police later made an arrest

For a manager in his first Premier League season, undertaking a considerable rebuilding exercise on limited resources, Unai Emery is doing a very good job. It was a strange kind of victory — the first goal an unfamiliar sight, the second all too common.
Nobody expects a howler from David de Gea these days, a contentious penalty decision, sadly, seems to happen every game. Arsenal benefitted from both.
That is not to say the win was without merit. Sead Kolasinac was the man of the match, a constant threat from left wing-back, closely followed by goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who was both quick-witted and brave in repelling United's forwards.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a prospect, while Granit Xhaka is at last looking a central midfielder capable of holding the fort as well as blasting his way out of it.
Paul Pogba has been running games of late but not this one. It wasn't that he didn't play well, more that Arsenal kept him in check. There remains the potential for upset, as happened in Rennes last Thursday, but gradually Emery is getting his team where he wants it.

Gunning for Ole Gunnar! Emery plotting to derail Solskjaer’s revolution as Arsenal undergo final preparations for United clash

  • The Gunners, who sit fifth, are one point behind the Red Devils in fourth place
  • Unai Emery looked as though he was rallying the troops in Saturday's session
  • The Arsenal boss was seen having a conversation with Alexandre Lacazette
The Arsenal boss was seen having a conversation with striker Alexandre Lacazette during the session.

Mohamed Elneny looked as though he was more relaxed as he jumped on goalkeeper Bernd Leno's back.
Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham were sucked into the top-four race after losing to Southampton on Saturday.
Nacho Monreal wants the Gunners to take the first step towards their target of finishing in the Premier League top four by beating Manchester United.
'We lost against them in a different competition, they beat us in the FA Cup playing at home but now we are fighting for the Premier League,' the Spain international told the club's official website.
'Our target since the beginning of the season is to finish in the top four and play Champions League football next year.
'We have the opportunity to get our target and the first step is Sunday. We play against them and we need to forget what happened in the FA Cup and we need to refocus in the next game and try to get the three points because if we do it we will be on a higher step to get to our target.

'There are still nine games to go and it's going to be really tough until the end of the season - and we cannot forget that there is another club in Chelsea.
'At the moment there are three clubs fighting for one place, but obviously if we get the three points on the weekend it will be perfect for us.'

Arsenal v Man United FA Cup Player Ratings

As usual when we play Man United, we had most of the possession but were let down by our finishing and defending, whereas United had 4 shots on target and score 3 goals! So I’m hardly going to give good ratings except for the star of the show…
(www.justarsenal.com)

Cech 4
Not one of his best displays. It doesn’t look like he will have many more cup games to play in before he retires if he has performances like that!
Maitland-Niles 5
Lively going forward but he simply doesn’t suit playing in defence, but having said that he was our best defender on the night!
Sokratis N/A
It’s not good that he was forced off with a knee injury after 20 minutes and we can only hope it’s not serious. Once he went off we went two down!
Koscielny 5
Didn’t replicate his game against Chelsea. It’s hard to know if he is ready for regular gametime. But he could be having another rest if he has a broken jaw.
Kolašinac 5
Like Maitland-Niles he is not really a defender. As it was a back four I wonder why Monreal wasn’t used?

Sead Kolasinac puts his forehead into Marcus Rashford to spark a melee among the players
Torreira 5
Is he burnt out already? It doesn’t look like he is coping with constant games at the moment…\
Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez (left) duels for the ball with Arsenal's Lucas Torreira
Xhaka 6
Very up and down which is better than his usual performances..
Ramsey 6
Played very well, but as usual no end product.
Iwobi 5
Lots of energy and he tries hard, but he really needs to find his scoring boots soon or all his effort is for nothing.
Aubameyang 6
Was in the right place for our goal but otherwise little impact
Lacazette 8
Worked his socks off and deserved more for his efforts…
Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette in action with Manchester United's Ander Herrera
Subs:
Mustafi 6
Not too bad after replacing Sokratis, but he still makes me nervous
Ozil 5
He got the ball a lot after he came on, but didn’t do much with it…
Guendouzi 6
I love Matteo’s energy, but couldn’t do much today

GW 15 : Chelsea kalah mengejut di tangan Serigala | Kecewa Arsenal gagal tumpaskan Menyu

tangan Serigala

58 mins: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea
63 mins: Wolves 2-1 Chelsea

Kecewa Arsenal bila seri ngan Menyu.Punah harapan 3 mata

Arsenal stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 20 matches but were denied victory by Manchester United in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Shkodran Mustafi forced a header past David De Gea at a corner to put Arsenal ahead on 26 minutes, but Anthony Martial quickly levelled from close range after Ander Herrera's cutback.

Marcos Rojo turned the ball into his own net under pressure from substitute Alexandre Lacazette to restore Arsenal’s lead on 68 minutes.

But straight from kick-off, Lingard exploited uncertainty in the Arsenal defence to deny them their first league win at Old Trafford since 2006.

Both sides had chances to win it, with De Gea tipping away Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s shot and substitute Romelu Lukaku coming close at the other end.

Arsenal drop to fifth on 31 points, while United remain eighth on 23 points.

EPL : Penalti Milner diselamat Forster | The Gunners raih kemenangan bermakna ke atas Red Devils

“It’s a special place in my life but on the pitch it’s business & we got the 3 points today” - Arsenal goalscorer Danny Welbeck

Mourinho: "I can't ask any more from my players who haven't played a minute for 6 or 7 weeks - Jones, Smalling & Mata were all amazing.”

EPL : MU 1 ARSENAL 1

🗣 “We were not sharp enough and not fluent enough, but in the end we scored a great goal.”- Wenger

It wasn't the win he would've wanted - but the boss certainly enjoyed 's last-minute equaliser

  • Mourinho: We are the unlucky ones
  • Wenger: We lacked sharpness today

The Gunners had Olivier Giroud to thank for rescuing a 1-1 draw against Man United after what was probably their worst performance of the season. The France international's thumping late header was brilliantly timed and the fact that it was Arsenal's only attempt on target for whole game tells you a significant part of the story.

Once more at Old Trafford, the Gunners failed to perform and when Juan Mata put United ahead midway through the second half, it was tough to see how Arsenal would get anything...

Mourinho meng-hanjing lagi...

'My last title was 18 months ago... not 18 years': Mourinho takes another swipe at Wenger's record as arch rivals go head to head

Jose Mourinho (pictured, top right, at this afternoon's training session) suggested he isn't given enough respect in English football as he couldn't resist at long-time rival Arsene Wenger. As the Manchester United manager prepared to face one of his great modern rivals Wenger as Arsenal come to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday, Mourinho claims the Frenchman is afforded a respect that he himself doesn't get.

Wenger buktikan Arsenal bukan pasukan biasa

“Saya perlu katakan bahawa Walcott betul-betul komited semalam. Walaupun dia tidak menjaringkan gol, namun dua hantaran cantik yang dilakukannya berjaya menghadiahkan dua gol kepada kami.
“Sanchez juga turut cemerlang, namun dia sedang mengalami masalah kecederaan pangkal paha dan kami masih meninjau tahap kecederaan yang dialami. Namun, berdasarkan laporan, kecederaan yang dialami itu tidak serius,” jelasnya. – Agensi
