Arsenal striker receives accolade for best goal scored in 2017 for his scorpion kick against Crystal Palace

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud said he was "delighted" to receive the Puskas award at the Best FIFA Football Awards on Monday.

The Frenchman was voted the winner of the accolade, awarded for the best goal of 2017, for his extraordinary scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in January.

Giroud's strike beat competition from Venezuela Under-17 women's striker Deyna Castellanos and South African goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

"I'm delighted to receive this trophy today in front of legends of football,” said Giroud. “Now l'd just like to thank the people who voted for me. I would like to congratulate the 10 nominees who scored amazing goals too."

The award was decided by a jury of club and international coaches, media representatives and fans.

Ronald Koeman (Everton) dipecat

Ronald Koeman 'disappointed' at Everton sacking but wishes team 'good luck in the future'

The Dutchman was axed on Monday after the 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal left them languishing down in eighth in the Premier League table
Ronald Koeman has revealed he is disappointed at his sacking as Everton manager but wishes the team luck going forward.
The Dutchman was axed on Monday after the 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal left them languishing down in eighth in the Premier League table despite an extensive summer spend.
Koeman guided the Toffees to seventh place last term but the loss to the Gunners proved the final straw after a difficult start to this year's campaign.
"I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all their hard work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager," he said in a short statement on Twitter. "I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton Board for the opportunity to have managed a great club and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.
"Naturally, I am disappointed at this moment, but I wish the team good luck for the future."
Under-23s manager David Unsworth has been placed in temporary charge and will oversee preparations for Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Toffees have already begun their search for a new permanent boss with Burnley's Sean Dyche, who has already attracted the interest of Leicester, under consideration.
It is understood, however, that he would want a tangible offer to consider leaving Burnley having been irritated by Crystal Palace’s reticence in the summer and what was a perceived as a greater desire to look abroad.

EPL : Huddersfield hand Man Utd shock defeat

Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre score in 2-1 win as United lose for the first time this season

Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre scored first-half goals as Huddersfield Town handed Manchester United their first league defeat of the season, winning 2-1 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield went ahead on 28 minutes when Mooy reacted first to a David De Gea save and shot into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later the home side were 2-0 up when United's Victor Lindelof, on for the injured Phil Jones, misjudged a long ball from Jonas Lossl and Depoitre was on hand to finish.

United pulled a goal back when a cross from Romelu Lukaku was nodded in by Marcus Rashford with 12 minutes to go but, despite late pressure, could not find an equaliser and fell five points behind Manchester City, the leaders.

EUROPEAN EXPLOITS DIDN’T HELP“The conditions are the same for everyone, for them and for us. The only thing that is different is that we played a game two days ago, they didn’t. But we already knew for a long, long time that is a difference in quality – one plays in the Champions League, the other doesn’t. So, the difference in quality is compensated by the fact that one team plays more than the other. That’s football.”
MISTAKES NOT TO BLAME
“It’s not fair to say that the mistakes were responsible for the defeat, because the mistakes were in the context of the overall performance. If we are playing amazingly well and then we lose because of an individual mistake, then we can say ‘okay we lost because of an individual mistake’. But no, since the first minute, the game was poor for us. We paid the price and I think deservedly.”

West Ham owners and board set to meet TODAY to discuss Slaven Bilic’s future

Hammers boss set to face the axe after watching his side suffer a 3-0 battering at home to Brighton on Friday night

West Ham currently sit 17th in the Premier League after nine games - and could slip into the relegation places this weekend.
Bilic has long been the bookies' favourite for the chop this term as his under-performing Hammers slide perilously towards the drop zone.
Now it appears the club's board have run out of patience and could sack the Croatian, 49, by the end of the day.
West Ham have won just two of their nine games in the Premier League this season, losing a further five.
Brighton thumped West Ham 3-0 on Friday to land Slaven Bilic in hot water

Following the Hammers' humbling at the hands of newly-promoted Brighton at the London Stadium on Friday, Bilic's odds of being axed were dramatically slashed

Following the game, Bilic said: "I don’t know [if I’ll be given time] all that I can say is that I am the manager of the team and I take full responsibility.

UEL : Giroud berjaya tunai janji (1-0)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger once again gave youngsters such as Reiss Nelson a chance to impress

“Apa yang pasti, saya akui ini adalah perlawanan yang cukup sukar dan Red Star berjaya memberi cabaran buat kami. Namun, saya gembira apabila penjaga gol kami, Petr Cech berjaya menyelamatkan beberapa percubaan bahaya pasukan lawan.
“Barisan pertahanan kami juga mantap dan saya harap mereka dapat kekal konsisten dalam aksi EPL menentang Everton (esok),” kata pengendali kelahiran Perancis itu. – AGENSI

UCL : Liverpool vs Maribor 7-0 | The REDS berpesta gol!

  • Roberto Firmino got the Reds off the mark inside three minutes, tapping home a Mohamed Salah assist
  • Liverpool doubled their lead soon after as Philippe Coutinho scored his fourth consecutive away goal
  • Winger Salah opened his body to slot the ball around the goalkeeper on 19 minutes for goal No three
  • Alberto Moreno then put on an assist as the ball was bundled over the line by Salah for his second goal
  • Firmino confirmed his second of the game as the second half got underway, heading home from close range
  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed his first Liverpool goal before Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the win
They plundered seven unanswered goals in Maribor, smashing their previous away best scoreline of 5-0 (achieved three times — in 1964, 1976 and 2001) to leave Klopp purring about the quality of a display that will do wonders for confidence.

'Wow,' said Klopp. 'The history of this wonderful club can be like a backpack. Now we get to write our own history. It will be difficult to beat that (in the future). To win 7-0 is quite rare. We did unbelievably well.'

The success came thanks to the irresistible play of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, who shared the first five goals, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the demolition.

Liverpool's front three terrorised Maribor's defenders. Their speed, skill and subtlety wrapped up the points inside the first 20 minutes and the club's first away win in the Champions League since 2009.

Argentina's hopes are hanging by a thread... but who will book their place at Russia next year

AFC - 46 teams competing for 4.5 places

Qualified: South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan

The only thing left to be decided is whether Syria or Australia will triumph in their play-off and go to a winner-takes-all encounter with a team from CONCACAF (as it stands, Panama). They drew 1-1 in the first leg and conclude matters in Sydney on Tuesday (kick-off 10am British time).

Australia, with five English-based players including Huddersfield’s in-form Aaron Mooy, have qualified for three World Cups in a row and are favourites for this one.
