ARSENAL 2-1 Burnley : Permainan menarik dr Dani Ceballos buat fans tertarik

• Ceballos put in a man of the match display as he laid on two assists 
• The Real Madrid loanee delivered the corner for Alexander Lacazette's opener 
• Spaniard capped an impressive display with the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's winner

David Luiz caught the eye. That was always going to happen as he made his home debut for Arsenal at the Emirates.

He has an unmistakeable mop of curly hair and is instantly recognisable. The Arsenal fans took to him in the 2-1 win over Burnley – after the 32-year-old Brazilian was confronted by the muscle of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes and stood firm.

They are in the strictly “ no prisoners taken” category and Luiz did not shirk the challenge they posed.

Ironically, Luiz – a surprise signing from Chelsea – inherited the number 23 shirt worn with such distinction by Sol Campbell.

And it would be hard to imagine a more stark contrast in defensive styles. Campbell was a colossus. Strikers like Wood and Barnes would bounce off him.

Luiz had to be more subtle. His strength lies in reading danger and in his distribution. His passing ranges from the eccentric to the extraordinary. Two first half moments summed him up.

Dani Ceballos cost £15 million for a one season loan from Real Madrid. Eyebrows were raised at the extravagant fee for a short-term commitment. It could well turn out to be money well spent.

Ceballos ran the midfield. He has a deft touch and the ability to somehow squirm out of the tightest of spaces to run free. He can see a pass – simple or long distance.

He was a constant menace to Burnley who just could not come to terms with what the 23-year Spaniard supplies. For all his skill, he is not one to baulk at the physical dimension that is part and parcel of the English Premier League.

Two debuts at the Emirates, two impressive impacts from Luiz and Ceballos and three points.

It could not have gone better.

Piala Malaysia : Perak sekadar seri dgn Penang

Perak terpaksa berpuas hati apabila hanya mencatat keputusan sekadar seri 1-1 menentang Pulau Pinang dalam perlawanan ketiga Kumpulan C saingan Piala Malaysia di Stadium Perak, malam tadi.

Gol pendahuluan The Bos Gaurus terhasil pada minit ke-12 hasil jaringan Ronaldo yang mendapat hantaran lintang daripada J. Partiban.

Anak buah Mehmed Durakovic terus mengasak namun beberapa peluang yang dicipta tidak disempurnakan dengan baik dan Pulau Pinang yang juga cuba membuat serangan balas gagal mencari gol penyamaan untuk menembusi kubu lawan.

Bersambung babak kedua, pasukan pelawat menerusi Casagrande berjaya meledak gol penyamaan pada minit ke-63.

Tersentak dengan jaringan penyamaan itu, Perak mengatur kembali serangan namun tidak dapat menambah jaringan dan keputusan seri kekal hingga tamat perlawanan.

Piala FA : PERAK bangkit singkir Pahang

IPOH: Perak berjaya memadam kelebihan gol dimiliki Pahang apabila menundukkan skuad Tok Gajah 3-0 pada perlawanan separuh akhir kedua Piala FA di Stadium Perak di sini, sebentar tadi.

Kemenangan itu membolehkan skuad The Bos Gaurus melayakkan diri ke perlawanan akhir dengan agregat 4-3 walaupun tewas 1-3 di Stadium Darul Makmur, Pahang, pada separuh akhir pertama, 22 Jun lalu.

Beraksi di hadapan penyokong sendiri, anak didik Mehmet Durakovic mula mengasak ke kubu pelawat sebaik perlawanan bermula namun beberapa serangan dilancarkan gagal membuahkan hasil.

Detik kebangkitan Perak bermula menerusi jaringan pertama dilakukan pemain tengah, Brendan Gan menerusi tandukan pada minit ke-35 menewaskan Helmi Eliza Elias hasil sepakan sudut Mohd Firdaus Saiyadi.

Perak terus garang dengan mengasak ke kubu lawan dan hasilnya K Partiban berjaya menjaringkan gol kedua pada minit ke-41 menerusi rembatan selepas menerima lorongan Raianderson Da Costa Morais (Careca) sekali gus merapatkan agregat 3-3.

Belum sempat anak didik Dollah Salleh memperkemaskan permainan, The Bos Gaurus berjaya memperoleh gol ketiga tiga minit selepas itu hasil gol sendiri pertahanan Tok Gajah, Fauzi Rosli yang tertolak bola ke gawang sendiri.

Babak pertama berakhir dengan kedudukan 3-0.

Bermula babak kedua, Pahang mula memperkemaskan permainan dengan mengasak ke gawang tuan rumah melalui Dickson Nwakame, Lazarus Kaimbi dan Mohamadou Sumareh.

Namun asakan bertali arus gagal menembusi pertahanan diketuai ketua pasukan, Shahrul Saad dan gawang dikawal Hafizul Hakim.

Bagaimanapun, Perak hampir menambah derita Pahang pada minit ke-83 menerusi Careca namun gol jaringannya dibatalkan kerana ofsaid.

Kedudukan 3-0 kekal sehingga tamat perlawanan sekali gus mengesahkan tiket Perak ke perlawanan akhir dengan kemenangan agregat 4-3.

Perak bakal menunggu pemenang antara FELDA United FC atau Kedah yang akan bertarung di Jengka, esok.
