Might have done better with Diego Costa’s goal and a couple of hairy moments - but also made two stunning saves.

Showed great maturity in tracking runners and managed to get under Costa’s skin early, although lost him for the goal.
PER MERTESACKER - 8.5
Didn’t look like a man who had not started a game for 392 days. A true leader and won every header.

Looks at home on the left of a back three and does the simple things well rather than over-complicating defending.
HECTOR BELLERIN - 7.5
Flew down the right with purpose and the Spaniard’s fitness is such that he almost scored a third on the counter late on.
AARON RAMSEY - 8.5
A tenacious display with real grit. Unsettled Chelsea throughout and capped the day off with the winner after earlier hitting the post.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN - 7
Helped double up with Monreal and was menacing when he motored down the left. Final ball let him down a little.
MESUT OZIL - 8
Much maligned German was back to his best. Worked hard and even executed a crunching sliding tackle on Hazard.

Looked to stretch the Chelsea back three and hit a post but struggled to carve out many opportunities.
ALEXIS SANCHEZ - 9
A nightmare to pick up, Sanchez told Ramsey to step aside for the first goal and remained a thorn in Chelsea’s side.

OLIVIER GIROUD (for Welbeck, 78) - Immediate impact by assisting Ramsey’s winner.

Certainly blameless, making some big saves, and the Belgian’s quick distribution helped Chelsea find a foothold in the game.

Caught in a daze from the off, often failing to pick up Sanchez but did improve as the evening went on.
DAVID LUIZ - 5.5
Wore a look of real frustration after being caught napping for Arsenal’s controversial opener and not his finest day.
GARY CAHILL - 7
Almost single-handedly kept Chelsea in it with two goal-line clearances during the first 45 minutes. Struggled with Ozil’s vision.
VICTOR MOSES - 4
Little quality on the ball and a blatant dive saw him given a second yellow and halting Chelsea’s forward momentum.
N’GOLO KANTE - 4.5
Endured his worst 20 minutes of football in England to start - and then did not track Ramsey for the eventual winner late on.
NEMANJA MATIC - 5
Game passed him by to a degree. Could not stamp his authority as Xhaka and Ramsey took control of the engine room.
MARCOS ALONSO - 6
Delivery just not good enough from wide areas and too often could be seen playing catch up with Bellerin.
PEDRO - 6.5
Antonio Conte’s liveliest player and the one who truly threatened to open Arsenal up. Drifted into dangerous pockets.
DIEGO COSTA - 7
Stood up to the physical confrontation and finally made a lasting impact by bouncing off Holding to equalise.
EDEN HAZARD - 6
Did have his fleeting moments when taking charge through the middle yet seemed unusually quiet, which is credit to Monreal.
SUBS
CESC FABREGAS (for Matic, 61) -Stayed on the move as Chelsea grew stronger.
