LONDON – Pemangku pengurus England, Gareth Southgate bingung serta tersinggung menyaksikan sikap segelintir penyokong mereka yang mengejek ketua pasukan The Three Lions, Wayne Rooney walaupun menang 2-0 ke atas Malta pada aksi kelayakan Piala Dunia 2018 awal pagi semalam.

“Ejekan ‘boo’ yang ditujukan kepada Rooney memang tidak adil. Rooney banyak berjasa kepada pasukan England. Nama Rooney disenaraikan adalah untuk menjadikan dia sebagai pemain yang paling banyak mewakili pasukan negara. Perbuatan mengejek itu memang tidak patut.

“Saya bimbang ejekan seperti itu akan melemahkan semangat Rooney serta pemain-pemain lain. Tadi (semasa perlawanan semalam) saya lihat Rooney bermain dengan penuh rasa bangga kepada England dan sema­ngat itu tidak wajar dicemari dengan ejekan,” ujar Southgate.

Pada perlawanan di Wembley semalam, Daniel Sturridge meledak gol pembukaan menerusi tandukan mengelirukan selepas me­nerima umpanan daripada pemain tengah, Jordan Henderson pada minit ke-29.

Gol kedua pula menyusul apabila pemain tengah, Dele Alli menyudahkan jaringan berselang sembilan minit selepas gol pertama. – Agensi

Cologne became the first team to deny Bayern Munich victory in the Bundesliga this season as they picked up a deserved 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.

Joshua Kimmich gave Bayern the lead five minutes before the end of a first half which the hosts dominated.

It was a different story in the second half, though, with Anthony Modeste bringing Cologne level, and they had the record champions on the ropes but failed to land a winning punch despite going close late on.
