UEL : EVERTON misery continues with Europa League defeat

Everton managed just 2 shots on target against Atalanta. Their next Group E match is against Apollon Limassol at Goodison Park on 28 September

Everton produced a dreadful performance as they lost their Europa League opener against Atalanta in Italy.
The home side dominated from the outset, taking the lead when Everton failed to deal with a corner, with the ball ricocheting off Phil Jagielka's hip and falling to Andrea Masiello to poke in.
Alejandro Gomez doubled the lead with a stunning curling strike, before Bryan Cristante drove through the Toffees' defence and placed the ball into the corner, with Everton 3-0 down at half-time.
It was more of the same from Atalanta in the second half, minus the goals, with Andrea Petagna hitting the woodwork after being set up by former Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon.
Ronald Koeman's Everton have now lose 3-0 in two consecutive games

Before the match, Ronald Koeman said he was taking the Europa League "very seriously". He also said Everton were "too nice" as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Dutchman made six changes from that defeat, but his team failed to show the intent and aggression the manager craved, with their performance arguably worse than that against Spurs.

What next for the Toffees?

After back-to-back 3-0 defeats, Everton face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday (16:00 BST).
The match will see Rooney return to Old Trafford, while striker Romelu Lukaku will face his old club for the first time since joining Manchester United from Everton in July.
With Everton failing to replace the Belgian in the transfer window, Lukaku could well show Koeman the goalscoring prowess they have been missing this season.

'I need to criticise myself' - Koeman

WCQ : Lukaku heads Belgium into Russia | Netherlands secure big win vs. Bulgaria | Sweden now trail France by just one point

Romelu Lukaku's 74th-minute header confirmed Belgium's spot in the 2018 World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Greece in Group H on Sunday.

An uneventful game sprang to life in the second half, with Jan Vertonghen opening the scoring for the visiting team only to see Greece draw level three minutes later when Zeca smashed home a first-time volley from Georgios Tzavellas.

Jan Vertonghen won his 92nd cap for Belgium in Greece

But a minute after that, Lukaku rose highest to head a Thomas Meunier cross into the back of the net and secure top spot in their group to make Belgium the first UEFA team besides the hosts to book a spot in Russia.

Although Belgium cannot be caught in the group, the race for second and a playoff spot remains wide open.

Belgium lead Group H by eight points with two games to play.
The Red Devils; Belgium > join Brazil, Mexico, Iran and Japan in qualifying for the World Cup, with Russia automatically getting a place as hosts.

The Netherlands' midfielder Davy Propper (2nd R) celebrates with teammates after scoring

Davy Propper (midfielder for EPL club Brighton & Hove Albion) scored a brace as Netherlands kept alive their hopes of qualifying with a 3-1 victory over Bulgaria.

Propper broke the deadlock in the eighth minute when he converted Daley Blind's cross from close range and Robben then made it two after 67 minutes as he slid in to meet another Blind delivery.

Ivelin Popov pulled one back for Bulgaria two minutes later as he guided a header into the bottom corner, but Netherlands grabbed a third 10 minutes from time through Propper, who headed home Quincy Promes' cross for his second of the evening.

The win sees Netherlands leapfrog Bulgaria into third in Group A, keeping them in sight of Sweden and France.

Nyman scores past goalkeeper Sergei Chernik

Sweden now trail France by just one point after their 4-0 rout of Belarus.

Emil Forsberg opened the scoring in the 18th minute, rounding Sergey Chernik before slotting home, before Christoffer Nyman netted six minutes later after taking advantage of a Belarus mistake at the back.

Marcus Berg then made sure of the result eight minutes before the break with a simple finish after being teed up by Forsberg, with Andreas Granqvist scroing a fourth from the penalty spot six minutes from time.

Permintaan Liverpool melampau – Barca

– Agensi
