Arsenal crumble at last-16 stage YET AGAIN as Berbatov inspires Monaco to famous win and leaves Wenger's side on brink of exit

ARSENAL 1-3 MONACO - MARTIN SAMUEL AT THE EMIRATES: It was his goal, after 53 minutes, that may have done for Arsenal in this tournament this season. That it was Monaco's second of the night without reply makes this one of the shocks of the Champions League campaign so far. We knew Monaco could keep it tight. Nobody fancied them taking a two-goal lead back to their home second leg, though. And it could have been more.

  • Geoffrey Kondogbia's first-half strike put Arsenal on the back foot on a dire night for Arsene Wenger's men
  • Dimitar Berbatov struck a clinical second just after the break to give the Gunners a mountain to climb
  • Alex Oxlade Chamberlain hit a late strike to give the Gunners a lifeline
  • But Yannick Ferreira Carrasco struck with almost the last kick of the game to restore Monaco's two-goal cushion
  • Arsenal failed to register a shot on target in the first half
  • Olivier Giroud missed two gilt-edged chances to score for the Gunners
